Hello there! I’m Kathy (she/her). I’ve been a photographer for 10+ years, with a focus on natural light portraiture, small business needs, author headshots, and meeting various needs for those updating their professional websites, social media, and marketing.
I was born in the Bull City and then moved to Middle Tennessee, where I grew up in the secluded forests, learning to make friends with trees, wildlife, and plants. Growing up in the woods has informed much of how I see and appreciate beauty and art. After receiving my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 2007, I happily moved back home to Durham in 2008.
I am vehemently anti-racist, an intersectional feminist, gender affirming, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and a proponent for fat liberation. I am passionate about helping others see and express themselves in a safe, warm, comforting environment. I am excited to work with you on your photography project!
My photography work has been published in the New York Times, and is seen in the back cover of Tracy Deonn’s New York Times Bestseller, and winner of the Coretta Scott King- John Steptoe Award for New Talent, Young Adult novel, Legendborn, and Bloodmarked.
I have published images in Christine Parks book Grow Your Own Tea: The Complete Guide to Cultivating, Harvesting, and Preparing.
